Where did LL Cool J get his hard flow? Through hard work, I guess.
“(…) at the time LL used to amaze me, ‘cos you go in his room – the dude would literally have twenty garbage bags in his room and they were all full of rhymes! He would just write and write and not stop! He was the most prolific dude that I had ever met, I couldn’t believe how many rhymes the dude would write! For every one you would say, he would have thirty rhymes to say!”
K-Rino. He’s releasing a triple CD, just like MF Grimm did… they are both pretentious in a good way, which is rare in rap (or in any field, I guess).
Like K-Rino, Grimm is a special MC, very serious, very creative, very original… and the man is in a wheelchair since 1994! Wikipedia adds:
“Facing narcotics and conspiracy charges, Grimm was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2000. He paid a one-day bail of $100,000, recording The
Downfall of Ibliys: A Ghetto Opera in those twenty-four hours.[7] During his stay
in jail, Grimm studied law. After filing many counter-suits, he was able to
reduce his sentence to three years and he was released in 2003.”
It feels very unlikely that this new Nas track is as good as it is… futuristic, political, a rock beat that isn’t complete trash.
Someone once wrote on the Internets that Vordul Mega only writes about smoking trees, the struggle, and smoking trees in order to cope with the struggle. All his verse are the same… and still dope. His new video got a mid-90s kind of feel; black and white, basketball courts, ciphers. It is getting more and more appearent that he was the best MC in Cannibal OX (well, first, let us see if Vast Aires new album really is any good).
Cormega has now a video available for Live Ya Life. This is as close as someone ever will get to Keep Your Head Up.
In my ears, Crooked I has always been one of the very most monstrous newcomers, skill-wise… but upon listening through Young Boss Vol 2 I see a writer rising up from between the rhymes, an author showing extreme concern for the construction of a line, details to rhyme patterns, cadences, rhythms, double meanings. Not to put him on a level with a Rakim, or even an Eminem – but perhaps he will be there one day. Until then he will have time to develop a unique voice, which seems to be lacking at times. His attitude can be a bit too much, exagerated, simple minded. And the beats, well, they kick, bang, thump and all that, but with few variations. It’s a mixtape, though, not an album, and how can I can complain when he is working on a project with these people?
(The fact that he is recording with Ill Bill is beautiful… like seeing Cormega and Immortal Technique on stage together… who finally has a new album coming out, by the way. Revolutionary Vol. 2 was partly monumental, and The 3rd World seems to be a good continuation, just as angry and concentrated. Go to his Myspace and listen to him share the mic with Ras Kass, Pharoahe Monch, Chino XL, Crooked I … and listen to Bootcamp Click’s Military Mind. He will also be on Ill Bill’s The Hour Of Reprisal. Fucking Christmas Day. Somewhere here lays the seeds to the revival of the rap genre, in the battle field where the seven-headed hydra of industry funk will be slayed, where veterans and up-and-comers connect, and Ice-T leads the troops).
Spliff Huxtable is a good source for instrumentals, both classic and fresh for the day. And because of this post, among others, you will find Ripped Open as one of the permanent links on the right, next to the regular, mumbling, stuttering, fleeing, unevenly updated flow of posts.
Han talar också om en militant, oorganiserad anti-fascism, om puerto ricanska skins som knivskar de nazi-skins som vågade visa sig vid den legendariska hardcore-klubben L’Amours, och han rundar av med att dissa de som fortfarande tycker att “Hitler was right“, de Ku Klux Klan-anhängare som “still exist undercover / and Mel Gibson never liked Danny Glover / another piece of shit called out in the paper / if we was there me and my peoples would have beat the fuckin shit outta Kramer / if this song offends you, you’re a hater / take a look within yourself and figure out what the fuck you’re afraid of“.

“I’m deep down in the back streets – in the heart of Medina
About to set off something more deep than a misdemeanor
Under the subway, waiting for the train to make noise
So I can blast a nigga and his boys”“There’s no need for us to spray up the scene
I use less men, more powerful shit for my team
Like my man Muhammad from Afghanistan
Grew up in Iran, the nigga runs a neighborhood newsstand
A wild Middle Eastern, bomb specialist
Intiated, at eleven to be a terrorist
He set bombs in bottles of champagne
And when niggaz popped the cork, niggaz lost half they brains”“His idols would lock down airports and extort
some import, catchin ten percent of what the fiends snort
Up in the ski resorts, up in hills
They move keys and had skis making drops on snowmobiles
The plan was to expand, catch seven figures, release triggers
And live large and bigger than my nigga
Who promised his moms a mansion with mad rooms
She died, and he still put a hundred grand in her tomb
Open wounds, he hid behind closed doors
And still organized his crime and drug wars”
“Mafia flicks, tyin up tricks was his main hobby
Teachin his seed Wu-Tang karate
Mixin drinks in clubs, hairy chest with many minks
Night time rollin with spics
Extra live, he claimed he couldn’t die, top rank
Took sixteen shots in his fist to bank
And his pet piranha, he named him marijuana
Smokin ganja, callin his weed paisandra
Claimin New York was ancient Babylon
Where the sky stayed the color of grey, like her-oin
I can’t front though, truck loads of endo
Soon to blow slow, his ass is out now, tally-hoe”
Is it Criminals Robbing Innocent Motherfuckers Every time?”
“We was kids back then, you was my only friend,
playing cowboys and indians with coat-hangers.
Now the only thing i tuck in my coat is crome bangers”
Inspectah Deck gjorde gjorde dock detta allra bäst. Hela hans vers på C.R.E.A.M.
“It’s been twenty-two long hard years and still strugglin
Survival got me buggin, but I’m alive on arrival
I peep at the shape of the streets
And stay awake to the ways of the world cause shit is deep
A man with a dream with plans to make C.R.E.A.M.
Which failed; I went to jail at the age of 15
A young buck sellin drugs and such who never had much
Trying to get a clutch at what I could not… could not…
The court played me short, now I face incarceration
Pacin — going up state’s my destination
Handcuffed in back of a bus, forty of us
Life as a shorty shouldn’t be so ruff
But as the world turns I learned life is hell
Living in the world no different from a cell
Everyday I escape from Jakes givin chase, sellin base
Smokin bones in the staircase
Though I don’t know why I chose to smoke sess
I guess that’s the time when I’m not depressed
But I’m still depressed, and I ask what’s it worth?
Ready to give up so I seek the Old Earth
Who explained working hard may help you maintain
to learn to overcome the heartaches and pain
We got stickup kids, corrupt cops, and crack rocks
and stray shots, all on the block that stays hot
Leave it up to me while I be living proof
To kick the truth to the young black youth
But shorty’s running wild smokin sess drinkin beer
And ain’t trying to hear what I’m kickin in his ear
Neglected, but now, but yo, it gots to be accepted
That what? That life is hectic”

(One of the greatest groups in music ever.)
“No longer, brothers, we unstable
Like Kane when he slew Abel, killing each otherYou can’t party your life away
Drink your life away
Smoke your life away
Fuck your life away
Dream your life away
Scheme your life away
Cause your seeds grow up the same way”
“Oh God, I beg for forgiveness
So help me Lord, yes I beg for forgiveness
Deep in my heart, please, I’m crying for forgiveness
Allah U Akbar, I fall to my knees for forgiveness
Branded by the steel iron, bullets flying
Ladies being hit through wickedness, I’m losing my grip
I thought we lived by the books, The Bible, Koran
We pick cotton, my back is still hot and dark and
They threw burners in our babies’ faces
Pale hands that looked scary touched our bodies in the strangest places
Sweat from the white man’s head
Fell on our daughters as she cried, giving white man head, almighty
Alrighty, niggaz is screwing
God won’t you tell me why these ho niggaz is screwing? I’m sorry father, sacrifice me, leave me wife Sacrifice me twice, so my kids can see paradise“
Filmen samplas bl a på Evil Shit, This Is Not An Exercise, Frank Zito, och förut nämnda Human Consumption.
Andra juveler från den skivan heter Suckadelic, Out Tha Pocket och Who’s Your Daddy.
